Atomic Festival 1950s Weekend 2017

It's that time of the year again when Atomic Festival is on and I love that it's based in my home town of Northampton. Woohoo! It's situated at Sywell Airdrome, which is about a 15 minute car journey from where I live.

This has to be one of my favourite vintage festivals that I try to go to every year. Though I wasn't able to attend last year due to being pregnant and saving up for my baby boys arrival. I'm thrilled to be working along side Lindsay of the online vintage store Campbell Crafts this weekend. I shall only be there on Sunday (19th August) but it's going to be lots of fun, none the less!

I was so happy to finally meet an inspiration of mine, the Queen of Pinup - Bernie Dexter and her wonderful husband Levi when I last attended in 2015. I managed to say Hello and chat for a bit after Levis set. She's such a lovely lady, down to earth and let us take photos. Levi was a true gentleman and smashed his set! Totally amazing!

Atomic is a weekend filled with awesome things to do for all the family and see your friends there too. Lets not forget about the marques full of your favourite stores for shopping!!

Tickets include admission to all music venues and
entertainment, from 10am to 11pm, including roller rink,
car show, vintage market, drag racing viewing area,
Charles Phoenix shows, dance classes and cinema.
Also late night music & dancing ‘til 2am (adults only).

Plus classic car rides (Sat)
and vintage & retro flea market (Sun).

With FREE parking, FREE programme,
FREE trampolines, FREE rock’n’roller rink,
FREE crazy golf… and lots more.
(Information taken from the Atomic Festival website here

I hope to see you there and please do come by to the Campbell Crafts stall to say Hi! :)

Will you be attending?

Put A Wiggle In Your Walk // Joanie Clothing

I'm gonna be honest, I've never worn a wiggle dress until recently. I always felt out of my comfort zone but since having Winter I pushed my comfort zone away to purchase my first wiggle! My usual outfits consist of swing skirts and dresses so this was a different outfit for me all together.

I felt confident and with the matching belt it pulled in my waist which I loved. The fabric is fitting but does have slight stretch so it moves with you. I wore it all day with ease and no discomfort like you get with most wiggle dresses.

I highly recommend this dress purchased from Joanie Clothing. This definitely won't be my last wiggle that's for sure! I finished my outfit with Mr Fantastic fox brooch from the recent Erstwilder 'Into The Woods' collection. Read my full review here

Brooch: Mr Fantastic // c/o Erstwilder (Sold Out)

Alice Negri Illustration // Ravenclaw Portrait

There's nothing more I love than finding new artists on Instagram! I'm a huge fan of collecting beautiful pieces by talented independent artists. Alice Negri is a new favourite! I've seen her work before as she's drawn a few of my friends. I love her style and just had to get something!

I decided to get my little family (including our furkids) attending Hogwarts in 1955 in The Great Hall. All dressed as House Ravenclaw! Just look at Pumpkins sweet little face!! Blown away is an understatement!! Alice was kind enough to answer a few questions about how she got into illustration and what inspires her.

How long have you been drawing/painting?
I started drawing and painting with passions and interests when I attended Elementary School, I used to make a lot of Harry Potter fan arts! I’ve always loved illustrated books and art. They have played a huge role in my life so when I finished High School (where I studied foreign languages - and not very well, I have to admit it!) decided to dedicate myself to Art. I went to Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where I graduated in 2015. Then I attended a two year Illustration course at Scuola Civica Arte & Messaggio in Milan. It was then I discovered that illustration was my own way to communicate things.

What is Your favourite medium to work with?
I love both traditional and digital media! If we are talking about traditional I have to say that I love copic markers! I love to use them on watercolour paper, blend them in beautiful shades, I really like how they look like watercolours! By the way i’m really into digital painting now (me of the past would never ever believe it!). I mostly work with flat colours especially when I paint my tiny vintage ladies or pattern illustrations but i’m trying to get better with a softer, complex style too.(I’m still learning!!)

What are your inspirations? Who/what inspires you to draw?
My work is highly inspired by old movies, period costumes and hairstyles, mythology, fairy tales but also everyday things, feelings, pictures of beautiful creatures find out on Instagram or on Pinterest. I have also a huge list of amazing illustrators and artists that inspire me everyday, and everyday I discover new ones! I’m in love with the work of Isabelle Arsenault, Julia Sardà,Sara Maese, I adore the amazing shapes and colours of Mary Blair and i’m crazy about the work of Frida Kahlo and Tamara De Lempicka ( AND SO MANY MORE!)

Favourite custom pieces you love to work on?
I love working on custom family portraits, especially themed ones! I love to catapult my customers into new magical and fantastical worlds and see them happy as i am: that’s the power of illustration!! And i really love creating custom illustrated logo designs too!
Where do you see yourself in the future?
I see myself working full time as a freelance illustrator and textile designer, travelling around the world with my sketchbook, publishing illustrated books, happy about my life.
What house are you in at Hogwarts? (Obviously the most important question)
Slytherin till the end!

Thank you SO much Alice for taking the time to answer my questions! :)

Please make sure you follow Marla Von Duta on Instagram! Get your own illustration before she goes on holiday in August at a fabulous price!

Do you have any favourite independent artists? I'd love to know!

Birthday Wishlist 2017

The weather has been a delight the last couple of weeks and we can officially call it Summer. I'm more of an Autumn girl but do love a breezy Summer day! I've come across so many lovely items I've put together a few things (things as in dresses LOL) I'm loving. I mean it's my birthday month after all. Woohoo!

Joanie Clothing
I purchased my first wiggle dress from Joanie and love it! I've never been one for fitted dresses but the fit and cut is a dream. These are a few other pieces I love from their site. Mellow yellow boned bodice dress, Green gingham summer shirt dress, Mermaid sun dress and OMG this Petal Bee & Floral cardigan is to die for!!!

Unique Vintage
1950s Hamilton swing dress in Black/White stripe and beautiful Floral print. Adore both of these! Huge fan of this style!

Campbell Crafts
C/C own brand of clothing has been incredible lately. I adore the Navy and Pink stripe 1950s swing dress. I already own the Pink Gingham version and it's one of my favourites for sure. The fit is perfect and easy to wear that I want them in every colour!!

Vixen by Micheline Pitt
I have been obsessed with the Vixen range since Micheline first launched her own brand. I have yet to buy from her website because ya know 'Mum Life' comes first. But that doesn't mean I can't drool over the new Halloween range that's coming soon! I want everything! Ben Cooper Trick R Treat print swing skirt, Sweetheart in Raven Black swing dress and the Bad Girl in orange/black stripes top.

Rock and Romance
I've found so many wonderful new brands over the last few months. One of them being R&R whilst looking for a dress for a dear friends Hen Do. I'd come across this brand before but never purchased anything. I decided to buy the Charlene dress which I loved and I felt amazing in it! I received lots of wonderful compliments. I didn't realise this floral print was made in different dress styles either! I'm thinking I definitely NEED the Suzy dress in this print and of course the red gingham too!

Seeing as I'd possibly need to win the lottery to purchase all of my wishlist, a girl can dream right? ;)

Any Summer favourites you're loving right now? I would love to know and leave links so I can have a browse at your faves :)

Disclaimer: All pictures in this post are by the named brands above. I have added the links from its original source.
