Alice Negri Illustration // Ravenclaw Portrait

There's nothing more I love than finding new artists on Instagram! I'm a huge fan of collecting beautiful pieces by talented independent artists. Alice Negri is a new favourite! I've seen her work before as she's drawn a few of my friends. I love her style and just had to get something!

I decided to get my little family (including our furkids) attending Hogwarts in 1955 in The Great Hall. All dressed as House Ravenclaw! Just look at Pumpkins sweet little face!! Blown away is an understatement!! Alice was kind enough to answer a few questions about how she got into illustration and what inspires her.

How long have you been drawing/painting?
I started drawing and painting with passions and interests when I attended Elementary School, I used to make a lot of Harry Potter fan arts! I’ve always loved illustrated books and art. They have played a huge role in my life so when I finished High School (where I studied foreign languages - and not very well, I have to admit it!) decided to dedicate myself to Art. I went to Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where I graduated in 2015. Then I attended a two year Illustration course at Scuola Civica Arte & Messaggio in Milan. It was then I discovered that illustration was my own way to communicate things.

What is Your favourite medium to work with?
I love both traditional and digital media! If we are talking about traditional I have to say that I love copic markers! I love to use them on watercolour paper, blend them in beautiful shades, I really like how they look like watercolours! By the way i’m really into digital painting now (me of the past would never ever believe it!). I mostly work with flat colours especially when I paint my tiny vintage ladies or pattern illustrations but i’m trying to get better with a softer, complex style too.(I’m still learning!!)

What are your inspirations? Who/what inspires you to draw?
My work is highly inspired by old movies, period costumes and hairstyles, mythology, fairy tales but also everyday things, feelings, pictures of beautiful creatures find out on Instagram or on Pinterest. I have also a huge list of amazing illustrators and artists that inspire me everyday, and everyday I discover new ones! I’m in love with the work of Isabelle Arsenault, Julia Sardà,Sara Maese, I adore the amazing shapes and colours of Mary Blair and i’m crazy about the work of Frida Kahlo and Tamara De Lempicka ( AND SO MANY MORE!)

Favourite custom pieces you love to work on?
I love working on custom family portraits, especially themed ones! I love to catapult my customers into new magical and fantastical worlds and see them happy as i am: that’s the power of illustration!! And i really love creating custom illustrated logo designs too!
Where do you see yourself in the future?
I see myself working full time as a freelance illustrator and textile designer, travelling around the world with my sketchbook, publishing illustrated books, happy about my life.
What house are you in at Hogwarts? (Obviously the most important question)
Slytherin till the end!

Thank you SO much Alice for taking the time to answer my questions! :)

Please make sure you follow Marla Von Duta on Instagram! Get your own illustration before she goes on holiday in August at a fabulous price!

Do you have any favourite independent artists? I'd love to know!
